The Under 14 Girls McLean Mavericks of McLean Youth Soccer (MYS) and the MYS Club hosted an unusual soccer event for 38 very special youth athletes on the MYS all-weather field at Lewinsville Park. On September 29th, a two-hour “AbilityCamp” was conducted by the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) in conjunction with the Paralympic Academy and DC United. NSCD specializes in providing outdoor therapeutic activity for individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis. For many of the participating children, this was their first soccer experience. Never has the adage “a picture is worth a 1,000 words” been more accurate.
